Update #1 – March 17, 2020

Dear Church Family and Friends at Madison First United Methodist Church,

As you are aware, the coronavirus (COVID-19) is of great concern and we want to do all we can as the Body of Christ to help prevent the spread of the virus.

As of today, we will be offering no public worship or weekly gathered ministries and activities (e.g. Bible Studies, Fellowship Meals, etc.) through the remainder of the month of March.  This is in response to the Centers of Disease Control’s recommendation of the postponement or cancellation of gatherings of more than 10 persons, as well as guidance from our Bishop, Annual Conference, and the direction of the President of the United States.  Our motivation is grounded in the call of Jesus to love our neighbor (Matthew 22:34-40).

We believe worshipping together is important, but we’re also mindful it doesn’t have to be in a building.  We will be live-streaming this weekend and next at our normal worship time of 10:00 a.m.   Go to our web-site at www.madisonfumc.org and connect.  But we are asking that you please not come to the church building to attend the service.  You can continue to participate in the offering by mailing it to the church office.

What we do for Palm Sunday and the Cantata, and even for Easter Sunday is still under discernment and discussion.  We will update you as soon as possible.

This is not “business as usual!”  We are taking this very seriously, which is why we always turn and listen to God’s Word of hope and peace through great difficulties.  We get to remember who we are in Christ Jesus, and that we belong to the One who said, “I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart.  And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.  So, don’t be troubled or afraid” (John 14:27, NLT).

Please be in prayer for those who have become sick and their families, the medical professionals and the government leaders.

Faithfully Yours and Praying,

Pastor Lamar Albritton
